EMDR Group Therapy: Emerging Principles and Protocols to Treat Trauma and Beyond

I am honored to be among 36 contributing EMDR experts and researchers from 11 countries whose work is featured in EMDR Group Therapy: Emerging Principles and Protocols to Treat Trauma and Beyond, edited by Regina Morrow Robinson and Safa Kemal Kaptan and published by Springer Publishing Company.

I co-authored the chapter “Health-Medical Challenges and Grief: Group EMDR Therapy for Patients and Caregivers” with Vanessa Grandjean.

Our chapter brings together areas that have been central to my clinical work for many years: trauma, serious illness, grief, caregiving, and EMDR therapy. Health and medical challenges can bring losses that extend far beyond a diagnosis itself. Patients and caregivers may experience fear and uncertainty, changes in identity and independence, anticipatory grief, traumatic medical experiences, and the ongoing emotional demands of illness and caregiving.

In the chapter, we explore the use of Group EMDR Therapy with patients and caregivers and consider how EMDR can support the processing of trauma and grief while honoring both the shared and deeply individual experiences of serious illness and caregiving.
